I recall hanging with the boys on Crescent Street intent on an evening on the town sure to be chock full of debauchery and whatnot on the evening of August 1, 1996 but having to wait for the mens 200 meter final race. You see, a certain Michael Johnson had much larger plans for his evening in Atlanta. We stood and watched in anticipation of the race. What we witnessed was "Beamonesque". (Johnson would say later: "I knew I had a shot at the record coming off the turn,'' he said. ''You can always tell coming off the turn and I felt at that point that I was running faster than I ever have in my life.")
Unforgettable.
Slack jawed and speechless, we made our way to the bars and, much like mister Johnson, made book on our evening...
enjoy... you may want to throw a sweater on as it gets a little chilly...
(apparently there's no licensed video in the vastness of the internet of this race which is shame on you nbc for your shortsightedness and so on; ergo, the grainy video. )

bo baseball -- lest we forget his legend

On the day Bo signed [with the KC Royals], he asked whether he could take batting practice. Bo had not swung a bat in months. He hit the first pitch he saw off the base of the crown scoreboard in center field. It had to fly 450 feet. Avron Fogelman, who co-owned the Royals, shouted: "Get me that baseball." Bo promptly hit the second ball he saw to almost the exact same spot, off the base of the scoreboard.
"Get me that ball, too," Fogelman said.
and there's plenty more Bo baseball legends courtesy of Joe Posnanski here...
